Background: The annual Spring Clean-Up initiative aims to mobilize community members and resources to improve public spaces. The project will include litter removal, recycling efforts, and beautification activities across key areas of the community.
Background:
The City of Saxman is proposing the commissioning of a Code Talker Totem Pole to honor the Tlingit Code Talkers who played a crucial role in World War II. These brave individuals used the Tlingit language to develop an unbreakable code, aiding U.S. military operations and contributing to the war effort. Despite their invaluable service, the contributions of Indigenous Code Talkers remained unrecognized for decades.
This totem pole will serve as a lasting tribute to the Tlingit Code Talkers, ensuring their legacy is preserved and honored for future generations. The pole’s design will incorporate traditional Tlingit form line art while symbolizing the strength, resilience, and intelligence of these unsung heroes. The project will be developed in collaboration with local carvers, elders, and historians to ensure cultural and historical accuracy.
The City of Saxman seeks to move forward with approving the initial design concept, identifying funding sources, and determining the location for this significant symbol to honor our Code Talkers.
Background: Cape Fox Tours has expressed interest in securing a year-round parking agreement with the City of Saxman. This proposal aims to establish a formal agreement outlining designated parking areas, terms of use, and any associated fees. The agreement would provide stability for Cape Fox Tours while ensuring that municipal parking resources are managed effectively. Council discussion is needed to review the terms, potential impacts on public parking, and any necessary stipulations before proceeding with an approval process.
