I.ACTION ITEMS

J.INFORMATION ITEMS

  1. 3.Real Heroes Award Nominations (see attachment). Each of the donors across the state sponsor one of ten Real Heroes. The Red Cross creates professional videos to help tell the story of the heroes and presents them at a big gala in ANC (March 2024). The RC does not pay for the travel of the hero, but often the hero finds scholarships or donations to be in ANCH in person for the ceremony. The event highlights everyday people in AK serving humanity an brings in funds for American Red Cross of Alaska. Hero categories include: Adult Good Samaritan, Alaska Safety, Fire Rescue, Marine Rescue, Medical Rescue, Military/Law Enforcement Rescue, Transportation Safety, Wilderness Rescue, Workplace/Slope Safety, Youth Good Samaritan.

Presentations at the Juneau Red Cross Office: We are working to reinvigorate and engage volunteers in the office. Finding reluctance but also recognizing the importance to bring volunteers together in person.

We are seeking partners with fun and engaging presentations to join us. If you are interested in a spotlight with the Red Cross and would like to get on our calendar, please let Britta know what your presentation is and what month/date you would like.

Movie Nights at the Red Cross: Aftershocks Nov. 14th and Nov. 28th. Movie nights are a casual excuse to come together and watch disaster movies. We can use our emergency management lenses and experiences to reflect on the preparedness, response, and recovery represented in the movies. This go around we are going to watch the first and second episodes of the Netflix series Aftershocks on Nov. 14th and then on the 28th we'll watch the final episode and have a discussion.
